Factors that soil possesses:

Besides different plants requiring different soils, the growing environment is also a factor in choosing soil. In fact, the growth of bonsai tree stumps is mainly affected by the air, water and nutrients in the soil, so what kind of soil can provide all of air, water and nutrients?

Choosing the most suitable soil:

For potted soil, nothing beats soil with suitable acidity and alkalinity, good drainage, breathability, looseness and fertility. Soil can likewise be chosen according to the needs of the plant.

Soil mixing methods:

Taking the common soil for pine and cypress bonsai tree stumps as an example, its soil mixing method is: 1 part plant ash + 1 part leaf mold + 3 parts garden soil + 4 parts peat soil + 1 part sand, mix all evenly and then the plant can be planted; the soil mixing method for other tree stumps is: 1 part plant ash + 3 parts leaf mold + 2 parts garden soil + 3 parts peat soil + 0.5 part sand, mix all evenly and then the plant can be planted.

Soil treatment:

But before planting, the soil must be disinfected, sterilized and dewormed before planting can proceed. Those who have the conditions can try the following method: pour all the mixed soil into a large wok and stir-fry it, keeping the temperature in the wok at 80°C as much as possible, stirring while frying, as this is more effective than using chemicals for disinfection, sterilization and deworming.

If the tree stump was obtained from the mountains and wilds, before transplanting it into a flower pot, all the soil it originally carried must be cleaned off, and then soil should be selected and mixed according to what suits the tree stump's variety.
