What is the difference between Monstera friedrichsthalii and Monstera deliciosa, and are they plants of the same genus
I. Differences between the two
Monstera friedrichsthalii, also called Monstera obliqua, appears smaller compared with the common Monstera deliciosa, and its leaves are entire, only with holes inside, while the common species often has notches on the leaf margins. Apart from this, the two are very similar in growth habits. But the former is more tolerant of high temperatures and also fairly shade-tolerant, while being very afraid of direct sun exposure; the latter is slightly better in cold hardiness, though the difference is not great.

II. Are they of the same genus
Monstera friedrichsthalii and Monstera deliciosa are perennial herbaceous plants of the same family and genus; both belong to the genus Monstera in the family Araceae, and both originate from Mexico. Because of their unique ornamental value, they have been introduced and cultivated all over the world. As the former is smaller, it is often used to decorate windowsills or tabletops, while the latter is more suitable placed on the floor in the living room.
III. Plant introductions
1. Monstera friedrichsthalii: The leaves of this plant are papery, elliptical in shape, and 12-15 cm in length. The leaf surface is deep green and very smooth, with elliptical holes in the middle. The whole plant is relatively small and highly shade-tolerant, usually placed in places without direct light; it likes high temperatures and is not cold-tolerant.
2. Monstera deliciosa: As a climbing shrub, this plant is usually larger, with mostly ovate leaves of thick leathery texture, light green on the surface, rather rough on the underside, and very sharp at the margins. It is suitable for growing in warm, humid places; shade it properly in normal care, and ensure sufficient water to keep the plant from suffering drought.
