How to Propagate Clivia from Seed

Seed harvesting: When the clivia fruit turns blackish-purple, cut it off and leave it for 10 days, then remove the seeds. Sowing: Before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water at 30°C for half an hour. After drying them in the air, sow the seeds on top of the soil, cover them with a layer of wood shavings, press down firmly and spray with water, then place in a cool, ventilated spot for care.

1. Seed Harvesting

First, you need to collect seeds. Clivia generally only produces fruit through pollination. When pollinating, this is usually done when the flowers are open and the perianth has split; after about 2-3 days the flower bud matures, and at this point there is sticky fluid on the stigma, so pollination can be carried out.

When pollinating, dip a soft brush in pollen and dab it onto the stigma of the pistil.

When pollinating, it is usually done once in the morning and once in the afternoon. After about 8-9 months, the seeds will mature. When the fruit turns blackish-purple, you can cut it off. After 10 days, you can take out the seeds.

2. Sowing

After harvesting the seeds, we can sow them. When sowing, choose a flower pot and soil with good air permeability.

Before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water at about 30°C for roughly half an hour. After drying them in the air, you can sow them in the flower pot.

When sowing, place the seeds on top of the soil, making sure the sprout eye faces down, and arrange them one by one. Then cover the seeds with a layer of wood shavings, press it down firmly and spray with water. Be sure to place it in a cool, ventilated spot and keep it moist.

Keep the seedling-raising temperature between 15°C and 30°C, and keep it moist. Generally, with good care, they will sprout in about half a month. After sprouting, care for them well and transplant them when appropriate.
