Is Rice Water Good for Watering Orchids?

Rice water is rich in nutrients and is mainly acidic. It is generally quite good for watering orchids and can effectively promote their growth and development, but it must not be used directly. It is best to ferment it thoroughly before watering, so that the heat it produces does not burn the roots. Usually from June to October, water it once every 3 to 5 days to promote root growth and development.

Rice Water Is Good for Watering Orchids

Orchids like to grow in nutrient-rich, acidic soil, but many people do not know that rice water is actually quite good, because rice water is relatively rich in nutrients and is mainly acidic. It can provide the nutrients orchids need for growth and has a very good effect on promoting orchid growth and development.

Rice water is relatively easy to obtain in daily life and is also the most economical. However, it must not be poured in directly. It is best to use rice water after repeated fermentation, otherwise it easily produces heat that burns the roots. You can put rice water from daily life into a container, keep the temperature at around 25 to 30°C, and let it ferment naturally.

After fermenting for about half a month, take the clear liquid from the upper layer, mix it with water, and stir evenly. Put the prepared clear liquid into a spray bottle and water once each season. When watering, apply it around the roots. After pouring it in, you can appropriately add one round of clean water, and at the same time do not let the fertilizer liquid touch the leaves or flower buds.

When watering orchids with rice water, you must also master a reasonable timing. From June to October, water once every 3 to 5 days. From November to January of the following year, orchid roots grow slowly, so you can water once every 10 days. This can ensure good orchid growth, and the roots will also get sufficient growth and development.
