Can you still water a clivia with beer after feeding it nutrient solution?
After applying nutrient solution to a clivia, you can water it with diluted beer after an interval, but there is no need to water with beer immediately after the nutrient solution. Nutrient solution is meant to provide nutrients to the plant, and watering with beer also requires some skill.
I believe many flower growers have tried using beer to grow flowers. Personally, I feel that using beer alone to drench the roots is less effective than using it to wipe the leaves of a clivia. Although beer contains various elements and can provide nutrients to flowering plants, it cannot completely replace fertilizer when fertilizing a clivia. Otherwise it will cause nutrient deficiencies that affect growth and flowering. When using beer to water a clivia, it is recommended to pay attention to these points:
Open the beer and let it sit for a few days, then dilute with water before watering the flowers; do not pour it directly. For a regular (550ml) mineral water bottle, just pour in 2 bottle caps and fill it up with water; that is how I dilute it. When diluting, follow the principle of preferring it too weak rather than too strong.
Do not frequently use beer to drench the roots and water the flowers. During the vigorous growing season, using it once every half month is enough; when it is time to fertilize, still fertilize.
Wiping clivia leaves with diluted beer helps the leaves grow glossy green.
After watering flowers with beer, pay attention to ventilation to prevent attracting insects.
Supplementing nutrients for a clivia is only one aspect of care. If you want to grow a clivia well, it is recommended to also pay attention to these aspects:
Provide shade in summer to prevent direct sunlight. In winter and spring when temperatures are low, it can be kept in the sun to improve photosynthesis.
When the temperature is too high or too low, the clivia will enter a dormant period. During dormancy, pay attention to controlling water, ventilating, and stopping fertilizer to prevent root rot or fertilizer burn.
The clivia has fleshy roots, so the potting soil needs good water permeability and air permeability. You can mix it yourself or buy special clivia soil. Repot once every 1 to 2 years to benefit the clivia's root growth.
During the vigorous growing season, water thoroughly when the potting soil is completely dry, and be sure to ventilate after watering. During periods of low temperature, pay attention to controlling water and keep the potting soil moist but on the dry side.
During the vigorous growing season, fertilize once every 10 to 15 days. If you want to save effort, you can use a multi-element compound fertilizer, and the effect is also quite good.
When caring for a clivia, do not move it around frequently. When turning the pot, turn it 180 degrees, otherwise the leaves will grow more and more scattered.
It is better to care for a clivia indoors, and a south-facing balcony is better. Do not keep it in a place indoors where it never gets direct sunlight all year round, to prevent it from affecting flowering.
