What to Do When the Leaf Core of a New Orchid Shoot Rots? Detailed Treatment Methods

What should you do when the leaf core of a new orchid shoot rots?

Causes of leaf core rot in new orchid shoots:

① Abnormal growth: This is mainly caused by an imbalance in the amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in the fertilizer applied, a lack of trace elements, and the use of too many growth promoters, which causes the leaf stalks to become soft and flaccid and turn brown and rot.

② Improper use of water, fertilizer, and pesticides: This is mainly caused by using too large an amount when watering, fertilizing, or spraying pesticides, doing so at an unsuitable time, or failing to dry the plant promptly after the operation is finished, resulting in scorching of the leaf base and subsequent rot.

③ Invasion by pathogenic bacteria: This is mainly caused by black rot, which makes the leaf sheath of the new shoot turn from yellow to black, and even causes the leaf core to rot.

④ External force damage: Rot is caused by external force damaging the leaf base or the central leaf.

Prevention and control methods for leaf core rot in new orchid shoots: Apply fertilizer reasonably; when watering, fertilizing, or spraying pesticides, the amount applied each time must not be too large, and the time should not be too late, so that the central leaf dries promptly; when removing discarded leaves and wiping the leaves, do not use too much force; once an orchid is invaded by pathogenic bacteria, promptly spray it with a 700-1000 times dilution of Tuijunling, carbendazim, Dikesong, or streptomycin, or spray with a 3000 times dilution of chloramphenicol and penicillin.
