What soil is best for Strelitzia (bird of paradise), and how many years of growing before it blooms?

Strelitzia is best grown in fertile soil with good aeration and drainage, because its roots are fleshy roots, and poor aeration and drainage will damage the roots. You can also make a soil mix from leaf mold, garden soil, coarse sand and coal cinder granules; there must be no insect eggs in the soil, and it should be sterilized and disinfected before use. Generally, it will bloom only after at least 3 years of growing, and it may also bloom when it has grown for 4-5 years.
1. Growing soil
For growing Strelitzia, it is best to use soil that is fertile, highly aerated and strongly draining, because its root system is also fleshy, and if it cannot meet the requirements of aeration and drainage, its growth may be affected. Mixing the soil yourself is also a good option; just mix leaf mold, garden soil, coarse sand and coal cinder granules together. In addition, if you use poor soil, you should also add a certain amount of base fertilizer, so as to help the plant grow.
Note that the growing soil used must not contain insect eggs, and sterilization and disinfection should be done in advance, otherwise it will harm its roots during cultivation and growing.
2. How many years until it blooms
Under normal circumstances, counting from sowing to blooming, it needs at least 3 years. However, care methods will also affect its blooming, and it may also bloom only after 4-5 years of growth. The prerequisite for it to bloom is that its leaves have grown to 9-10 leaves; if there are too few leaves, it will be very difficult for it to bloom.
If it does not bloom after the expected time when cared for at home, you should consider whether there is a problem with the care. Usually, applying too much nitrogen fertilizer and using a flower pot of an unsuitable size will both prevent it from blooming.
