How to care for a bromeliad in winter and what to do if it wilts

I. How to care for a bromeliad in winter

1. Light: Winter light is warm and soft. A bromeliad kept at home should be placed in a spot with plenty of light; more sun exposure helps the plant store nutrients and bloom more.

2. Temperature: The most suitable growing temperature for a bromeliad is 15-25°C. Winter is cold, so the bromeliad should be brought indoors, with the care temperature kept above 10°C. If the temperature is on the low side, be sure to water less.

3. Watering: When a bromeliad lacks water, its leaves curl inward. Normally you can weigh the pot in your hand; when it feels noticeably lighter, water thoroughly, pouring slowly until water runs out.

4. Note: When caring for a bromeliad in winter, also remember not to fertilize. At low temperatures, fertilizing not only fails to be absorbed by the roots but can easily cause fertilizer burn. In addition, in winter, take advantage of the warmest time around noon to open the windows often for ventilation and air exchange.

II. What to do if a bromeliad wilts

When a bromeliad wilts and its leaves curl, it is usually because the growing environment is too dry and there is no water stored in the leaf cup. The leaf cup of a bromeliad is the cup-shaped water-holding structure at the base of the leaves. When watering a bromeliad, also pour water into the leaf cup and keep water in it at all times to prevent the plant from wilting.
