The lifespan and blooming time of the paulownia tree

I. The lifespan of the paulownia tree

The paulownia tree has a certain lifespan and cannot live forever. Common varieties generally live between 30 and 40 years, and as time goes on, hollow trees tend to appear in the later stages, and the plant slowly withers and dies. However, some varieties live longer; for example, the red giant sequoia of the United States can live between 3,000 and 4,000 years even in harsh environments. There are also very rare varieties that live even longer, roughly 7,000 to 8,000 years.

II. The blooming time of the paulownia tree

The paulownia tree usually blooms between March and April each year, and the blooming period can last about one month. The flowers grow in small cymes of three to five. The corolla is relatively large, pale purple or white, and shaped like a bell or a funnel; during the blooming period it has a certain ornamental value.

III. The growth habits of the paulownia tree

It is a sun-loving tree species with a high demand for light, so it should be given plenty of sun. It grows better in soil that has good permeability, a deep soil layer and good drainage. However, it has strong adaptability and can grow normally even in poor, acidic or alkaline soil. Note that it is not tolerant of waterlogging, so drainage must be done promptly during the rainy season; prolonged water accumulation will hinder growth and the plant is prone to dying.
