What causes root rot in clivia

There are many causes of root rot. The first is watering too much, the plant's roots cannot breathe and rot occurs, so water less. The second is improper fertilization; giving it heavy fertilizer easily burns the roots, so apply a little less each time. Finally, unsuitable temperature: high air temperatures also raise the soil temperature, which causes root rot, so the growing temperature must be strictly controlled.

1. Watering too much

Clivia does not need particularly large amounts of water to grow; when grown normally, watering every few days is completely enough to meet its growth needs. If you water too much, the soil becomes compacted, the roots cannot breathe freely, and over time this leads to root rot. The solution is very simple: reduce the frequency and amount of watering, and wait for it to slowly recover.

2. Fertilizing too much

Clivia is generally a very easy plant to keep alive, and its usual water and fertilizer needs are not particularly great. If too much fertilizer is given, it causes fertilizer burn, and the most obvious result is root rot. So growers do not need to apply a large amount of fertilizer all at once; a little each time is enough.

3. Temperature too high

The most suitable temperature for normal growing is around 22°C. If the temperature is too high, the roots sit in soil at a higher temperature and root rot very easily occurs. This is especially true when raising seedlings, when people worry that the temperature is not high enough and will affect growth; in fact, being kept at high temperatures for a long time can cause death. So only a reasonable temperature allows it to grow better, and when growing it you must create a comfortable growing environment for it.
