What to Do When Clivia Blooms with a Stuck Flower Scape

After discovering that a clivia is blooming with a stuck flower scape, the first step is to analyze the cause. If the temperature difference is insufficient, you need to control the day-night temperature difference well to promote flowering. If nutrients and water are insufficient, you need to supplement appropriate fertilizer and water to ensure the plant's growth needs. If the soil is unsuitable, you need to replace it with fresh soil and start care anew.

1. Increase the Temperature Difference

When growing clivia, the plant's flowering requires a certain temperature difference. If the ambient temperature changes little and the day-night temperature difference is too small, the clivia's flower scape cannot emerge, causing it to bloom with a stuck flower scape. At this point, you should increase the plant's day-night temperature difference: place it in a warmer spot during the day and in a cooler spot at night to promote the emergence of its flower scape.

2. Increase Nutrients

The growth and flowering of clivia have a high demand for nutrients. If topdressing is not carried out in time to ensure sufficient nutrients, the plant will be unable to grow normally, causing it to bloom with a stuck flower scape. At this point, you should immediately apply topdressing, with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers as the main type, to ensure sufficient nutrients and promote the emergence of the clivia's flower scape.

3. Supplement Water

Clivia prefers a humid environment, and the plant's growth has a high demand for water. If sufficient water cannot be guaranteed, clivia likewise cannot grow and bloom normally, causing it to bloom with a stuck flower scape. At this point, you should supplement water in time, keep the soil in a moist state, and at the same time spray water around the plant to ensure the plant's growth.

4. Replace the Soil

When growing clivia, you must ensure the soil is loose and breathable, and replace the soil once every 1~2 years. If the soil is not changed for a long time, it will lead to soil compaction and a lack of soil nutrients, seriously affecting the plant's growth and causing it to bloom with a stuck flower scape. At this point, we should carry out soil replacement, switching to fresh soil and starting care anew.
