Learn these 3 tips for growing gardenias: no yellow leaves, no falling flower buds, and vigorous growth

Gardenia flowers are pure white when they bloom and have a faint fragrance. If you keep one at home, a light, fresh scent will drift through the air. A well-grown gardenia is both beautiful and appealing, but when growing one you're bound to run into some problems. For example, some flower growers report that their gardenias develop yellow leaves, and the flower buds on the branches drop off for no reason before they even open, which really hurts to see. Today I want to share with you the reasons this happens to gardenias and what to pay attention to, so that from now on everyone can grow their gardenias in really healthy shape.

1. Gardenias must not be exposed to blazing sun during care

Everyone knows the weather is getting hotter and the sun is getting stronger. If you put your gardenia on the balcony to grow at this time, the sunlight on the balcony is fairly intense and can easily scorch the gardenia, and after being scorched, the gardenia will develop yellow leaves and drop its flower buds.

So when the sunlight is fairly intense, be sure to shade the gardenia properly and don't let it take blazing sun; you can also move it to a place out of direct sunlight and grow it in diffused light. That way your gardenia won't develop yellow leaves or drop its buds.

2. Do not water gardenias too much

When caring for gardenias, watering is of course necessary, but be careful when watering: too much water prevents the gardenia's roots from breathing properly, which causes root rot, and then the gardenia's leaves turn yellow and its buds drop.

So when caring for gardenias, do not water them too much; just keep the potting soil moist. In everyday care you can also spray some water on the leaves to keep the gardenia's growing environment at a certain humidity. This lets the gardenia grow better and also prevents yellow leaves and dropped flower buds.

3. Gardenias must be fertilized during care

For gardenias, you must not skip fertilizing them during care, because gardenias need a supply of certain elements as they grow. If you don't fertilize in time at this point, the nutrients won't be enough, and the gardenia will develop yellow leaves and drop its flower buds.

So during growth you mustsupplement certain elements, such as iron. If yellow leaves and dropped flower buds appear, you can apply 0.2% black alum water or ferrous sulfate water, which adds iron to the soil and keeps the gardenia from developing yellow leaves and dropping flower buds.
