What are the main reasons a clivia does not bloom
Failure to bloom is mostly caused by improper care methods. If it is caused by soil that is too compacted and poorly drained, you need to change the soil regularly and loosen the soil often in normal times. If it is caused by a lack of fertilizer, you need to apply an appropriate amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer before flowering and use less nitrogen fertilizer. If it is caused by temperatures that are too low or too high, you need to adjust the temperature to around 15-25°C. If it is caused by improper watering, you need to pay attention to drainage, and the soil must not be too dry either.
1. Compacted soil
Clivia is suited to growing in a relatively loose environment. If the growing soil is too compacted and also drains poorly, its roots will grow poorly or even rot, which will affect flowering. You should change the soil regularly, preferably repotting once every spring, and also loosen the soil appropriately during routine care.
2. Lack of fertilizer
It is not very fond of fertilizer, but if the growing soil has no nutrients for a long time, it will hinder the plant's growth and thus cause failure to bloom. You should add some base fertilizer when planting, and appropriately apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer before flowering. You must not apply too much nitrogen fertilizer; applying too much nitrogen fertilizer also makes it hard to bloom.
3. Unsuitable temperature
When growing clivia, the temperature should be suitable. Below 10°C or above 30°C, it will pause growing, and poor growth will hinder its normal bud formation, which will also lead to failure to bloom. You should pay attention to adjusting the temperature in time, and it is best to keep the temperature at around 15-25°C. Also, it should get some sunlight appropriately; it must not always be grown in a dark place with no light.
4. Improper watering
When watering it, you should master the correct method; otherwise, whether overwatering or going without water for a long time, its roots cannot grow vigorously, and the plant's growth will also worsen and it will not bloom. You should water according to the specific situation. When the climate is relatively dry, you can water a little more, but you must not overwater; as long as there is no standing water, that is fine.
