Is "malingshu" potato or sweet potato, and the characteristics of both

I. Is "malingshu" potato or sweet potato

"Malingshu" is the potato, not the sweet potato; it is the scientific name of the potato. Besides these two names, it is also called "didàn", "yángyù", "Hélán shǔ" and so on, with different regions using different names. The sweet potato is "dìguā", and it differs fundamentally from the potato in some ways. The potato and the sweet potato also look different: the potato's outer skin is white or yellow, and the flesh inside is also very light in color, while the sweet potato's outer skin is mostly red, and the flesh inside is yellow-red or yellow.

II. The characteristics of both

The potato's shape is flat and round, with no hairs on the surface, though sometimes a few soft hairs are sparsely distributed. It can bloom, with the flowering period in summer; the flower shape is a bell-shaped calyx, about 1 cm in diameter, and the flower color is white or blue-purple. It should be noted that the potato contains a certain level of toxicity; after cooking at high temperatures the harmful substances break down, but eating it after it has sprouted can cause poisoning.

The sweet potato's shape is varied, including cylindrical, block-like, spindle-shaped and round. The sweet potato rarely blooms, and in northern regions in particular it is very difficult for it to bloom naturally; the flowers grow in the leaf axils and at the leaf tips, and the flower color is pale red, and also purplish red, with a funnel shape, very much like the morning glory.
