How to care for a potted clivia in winter

When caring for clivia in winter, move it indoors and control the temperature. It is best kept between 15°C and 20°C, and the difference between day and night temperatures must not exceed 10°C; if you cannot control it, you can cover the pot with cling film to keep it warm. Although it likes partial shade, winter sunlight is mild, so you can place it in a spot with plenty of light and let it sunbathe. In addition, fertilize once before winter sets in, mainly choosing phosphorus and potassium fertilizer.

1. Temperature

Clivia is not cold-tolerant, so when winter temperatures drop, move it indoors for care and control the temperature. It grows well between 15°C and 20°C, and at the very least you should keep it above 10°C. In addition, the difference between day and night temperatures should not be too large and must not exceed 10°C. If the temperature cannot be controlled, you can cover the pot with a cling bag to keep it warm.

2. Light

It likes to grow in a partial-shade environment, but winter sunshine is very mild, so you can put it in a well-lit place to sunbathe, which will make the leaves more glossy. But note that you should change the direction of the pot every ten days so that the light shines on the plant more evenly and the plant shape becomes more attractive.

3. Fertilizing

Fertilize once before winter sets in, mainly choosing phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. You can use fermented fish water or eggshell powder, both of which supplement phosphorus fertilizer well, and you can also apply bran ash or tobacco ash, which can supplement potassium fertilizer. Never use concentrated fertilizer or raw fertilizer, otherwise the roots are prone to rot and the leaves will dry out.
