What are the special fertilizers for orchids

For fertilizing orchids, you can directly use compound fertilizers, commercial organic fertilizers, homemade household fertilizers, or orchid-specific fertilizers. Compound fertilizers are mostly based on a mix of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, while other homemade flower fertilizers have complex compositions. Special fertilizers are more suitable for orchids because they can meet the needs of orchids. Commonly used ones include water-soluble nutrient solutions and granular fertilizers.

I. Compound fertilizers

Generally, compound fertilizers refer to multi-element compound fertilizers that contain nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and other elements. Because of their balanced nutrition, this kind of fertilizer is favored by many people. Homemade flower fertilizers are also balanced and sufficient in nutrients. You can compost organic fertilizer yourself, and its nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content is also considerable. After they are thoroughly decomposed, dilute them and add them to water. This can be combined with watering to bring more nutrients to the soil.

II. Special fertilizers

In addition to the compound fertilizers or homemade fertilizers mentioned above, which are general-purpose fertilizers, you can also use dedicated fertilizers for fertilizing orchids, namely orchid-specific fertilizers. This kind of fertilizer is very easy to use because it is customized according to the unique needs of orchids and can meet many of the plant's requirements. This special fertilizer is divided into water-soluble nutrient solutions, powders, and slow-release granular fertilizers. It is very convenient to use, and also clean and hygienic.

Commonly used fertilizer brands include Lanjunwang, Huakang No. 1, Huakang No. 2, Sichuan Shuguang, Yamei, and Guoguang's special fertilizers. Commonly used types include BB fertilizer, added-magnesium Osmocote A2, seaweed extract, and so on.

III. Fertilization methods

Fertilization methods vary according to the season. Generally, fertilization can begin in spring, burying fertilizer granules in the soil to promote rapid plant growth. In autumn, the plant enters a rapid growth period, and the amount of fertilizer is generally increased. Liquid fertilizer can be used, and more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer is needed to promote abundant flower buds. In hot summer, fertilization is generally reduced or avoided as much as possible. In winter, when temperatures are lower, the plant enters dormancy and does not need fertilizer. Before winter begins, some solid fertilizer can be buried in the soil in preparation for overwintering.

A newly potted orchid cannot be given heavy fertilizer, otherwise it will be difficult for it to survive. Even if it survives by luck, it will be difficult for it to bloom. Wait until buds and leaves appear, then apply a light dilute fertilizer in the evening, and then repeat once every 2-3 weeks. Generally, after fertilizing, water should be replenished in time, otherwise the plant's roots will be damaged.
