How to Plant Clivia Seeds, the Planting Method for Clivia Seeds

Clivia is a fairly beautiful flowering plant in everyday life, and it is also relatively easy to grow. With just proper watering and fertilizing, Clivia can grow lush and full of leaves. However, many people like to start raising Clivia from the seed stage. Although the growing process takes quite a long time, you can experience a lot of fun along the way. So how do you plant Clivia seeds? Let's take a look at the Clivia seed planting method together.

I. How to Plant Clivia Seeds

Growing Clivia is actually a fairly simple matter. You just wait until the Clivia has flowered and fruited, then use its seeds for sowing and propagation. If you don't already grow Clivia at home, it is best to just buy seeds from the market, so you can plant Clivia with peace of mind. In fact, as long as you choose fertile soil,

and then water appropriately, Clivia will quickly take root and sprout. From this you can see that planting Clivia is an easy thing. However, during the growing period it is actually quite difficult, because only after the Clivia has taken root and sprouted can it be considered successfully grown. If it does not sprout, that means the planting has failed.

II. Clivia Seed Planting Method

1. Choosing Seeds

Generally, it is best to sow the seeds within one to two days of taking them out. At this time the seeds contain more moisture and have strong vitality; if they are left for too long, the germination rate of the seeds will be affected. Use scissors to cut off the fruit together with the "flower stalk", then peel out the seeds.

2. Soil Selection

Clivia seeds are suitable for planting in slightly acidic soil, with a pH value of 6 to 6.5 being ideal. The most common surface soil found in woodland in our daily lives, soil that is loose and contains plenty of humus, will do; then mix in one third clean fine sand. Following these steps, roots will generally grow in 15 to 20 days.

3. Soaking the Seeds

In order to fully soften the endosperm and seed coat, before planting the selected seeds, first soak them in water at around 40°C for about 30 hours, then remove them and let them cool. Treated seeds will produce a radicle in about 17 to 20 days. Doing this allows Clivia seeds to take root and sprout faster.

4. Sowing and Propagation

When sowing, place the seeds on top of the soil, paying attention to keep the eye of the sprout facing downward, and arrange them one by one. Then cover the seeds with a layer of wood shavings, press it down firmly and spray with water. Be careful to place it in a cool, ventilated spot and keep it moist, then tend it carefully; it will not be long before the Clivia takes root and sprouts.
