What causes clivia leaves to turn yellow?

Yellow leaves on clivia can be caused by too much water, lack of water, too much fertilizer, or normal metabolism. If it is too much water, you need to cut off the blackened roots and then change the soil. If it is lack of water, you need to reduce watering. If it is too much fertilizer, you need to pause fertilizing, then use water to wash the fertilizer out of the potting soil. If it is normal metabolism, just care for it as usual.

1. Too much water

Cause: If the clivia develops yellowing new leaves and dry tips on old leaves, it is very likely because of overwatering, or because water was not drained promptly after rain, which caused root rot.

Treatment: First check its roots, cut off the blackened roots, then replace the potting soil with new soil, and reduce the frequency of watering, waiting for it to gradually recover.

2. Lack of water

Cause: If its new leaves are normal but the old leaves turn yellow and drop, it may be that it is being watered too little.

Treatment: Gradually increase the frequency of watering, and keep the potting soil slightly moist at ordinary times; do not let it dry out.

3. Too much fertilizer

Cause: If the leaf tips of both its new leaves and old leaves turn yellow, then it may be caused by too much fertilizer.

Treatment: First pause fertilizing, then use a large amount of water to wash away the excess fertilizer in the potting soil. After that, put it in a cool place to dry, and then reduce the frequency of fertilizing.

4. Normal metabolism

Cause: If the base of the old leaves begins to turn yellow and soft while the rest is normal, then it may be caused by its normal metabolism.

Treatment: No special treatment is needed; just care for it normally in the usual way.
