What flowers are suitable for growing in Beijing

I. Climatic characteristics of Beijing

Beijing has a typical north temperate semi-humid continental monsoon climate. As the area with the most rainfall in North China, Beijing has hot, rainy summers and cold, dry winters, with short spring and autumn seasons. However, spring and autumn have the longest sunshine hours, so given Beijing's climatic characteristics, most flowers are fairly suitable for planting. For ground planting, though, the low winter temperatures must be taken into account, so it is best to plant relatively cold-resistant plants.

II. What flowers are suitable for growing in Beijing

1. Ground planting: Generally speaking, ground-planted plants are more affected by the regional environment. Given Beijing's climatic characteristics, the following are fairly suitable for planting: ginkgo, forsythia, winter jasmine, Sorbaria kirilowii, crape myrtle, Chinese rose, flowering almond, rose of Sharon, Rosa xanthina, ornamental peach, lilac, magnolia, crabapple, Chaenomeles speciosa, cherry blossom, Kerria japonica, redbud, Weigela florida, Hydrangea macrophylla, Viburnum, rose, Hylotelephium erythrostictum, iris, daylily, ground-cover chrysanthemum, Dianthus, Hosta, Rudbeckia hirta, Orychophragmus violaceus, Viola philippica, honeysuckle, wisteria, Lonicera japonica, trumpet creeper, Parthenocissus tricuspidata, Chinese peony, and so on.

2. Potted planting: Generally speaking, potted plants are less affected by the regional environment. If the winter climate is cold, the pots can be moved indoors at any time to overwinter, and since Beijing's indoor spaces are heated in winter, keeping potted plants indoors also lets the plants keep growing as usual. We just need to make sure the plants are kept away from radiators and underfloor heating.
