What size flower pot is suitable for a Clivia? Detailed guide to repotting

What size pot does a Clivia like, and how to repot it

Clivia likes a moderately sized flower pot, not too large; the pot should be chosen according to the size of the plant. The width of the pot is determined by the length of the leaves, taking up two-thirds of the leaf spread length. The height is determined by the plant's growth, ensuring the roots can spread out normally. Choose spring or autumn for repotting, take the plant out of the original pot, and then plant it into the new pot.

I. What size pot

When growing Clivia, it likes a moderately sized flower pot, not too large; the pot must be chosen according to the size of the plant. Never use a large pot to grow a small seedling, otherwise accumulated water will cause the roots to rot, affecting the plant's growth, and the plant's proportions will also be uncoordinated and not very attractive. The width of the pot is determined by the leaf length, taking up two-thirds of the leaf spread length.

The height is determined by the plant's growth; it does not need to be too deep, just enough to ensure the roots can spread out normally. If the roots are relatively dense, choose a larger pot; a pot that is too shallow will make it difficult for the roots to spread, affecting the uptake of water and nutrients. If the number of roots is relatively small, the pot chosen should not be too tall.

II. How to repot

1. Time: Choose spring and autumn for repotting, when the temperature can remain stable above 20°C, which is very beneficial for the recovery of the plant's roots. Be sure to avoid the flowering period.

2. Removal: Use a small knife to cut around the edge of the pot, tip out the old potting soil, then prune the roots, removing the outer old soil and old roots.

3. Planting: Prepare new potting soil, hold the plant upright in the middle of the pot, fill in soil while shaking the pot, then firm the soil and water it thoroughly.
