What kind of pine bark is good for growing orchids

The pine bark commonly seen in daily life can be used for growing plants, and many flower growers may already know this. However, after picking pine bark up and taking it home, it still needs to be decomposed before use. Below, I will share with you how to ferment nutrient-rich pine bark.

1. Direct fermentation

Put the pine bark directly into a clean plastic bag, add a little clean water, then tie the opening tightly, and place it in a sunny and warm place for full fermentation. After about one month, it will be completely decomposed. If you want to speed up fermentation, you can crush the pine bark into smaller pieces, and the fermentation speed will also be relatively faster.

2. Fermentation with added fertilizer

After fully crushing the pine bark, mix in a certain amount of chicken manure or rice washing water, cake fertilizer water, and other fertilizers, then ferment normally. Generally, after two to three months of decomposition and fermentation, it will be fully fermented. Pine bark fermented this way is more nutrient-rich and very easy to use.

Before pine bark is completely decomposed, it is brown. After full decomposition and fermentation, the color becomes darker, appearing charred black. Under pine trees, after years of accumulation, there is also a lot of naturally fully decomposed pine bark, so we can also go under the pine forest to dig up some blackened pine bark to use.

However, pine bark dug from under pine trees needs to be fully disinfected and sterilized. It can be soaked in carbendazim solution, or placed under the sun for full exposure. This can achieve a relatively good effect of killing insect eggs and sterilizing. After that, it can be used.
