How to create a suitable growing environment for orchids in summer
Summer is rather dangerous for orchids. The climate changes unpredictably, and the slightest negligence in management can lead to unexpected accidents. So how exactly should you create a suitable environment for orchids in the hot summer?
Orchid
Create humidity according to local conditions, and avoid both excessive dryness and excessive moisture. In summer, temperatures are high, water evaporates quickly, and air humidity is on the low side, so you must work hard to create a small environment suitable for orchid growth. Generally, a water trough can be used to increase humidity so as to raise the air humidity. It is best to set the water trough together with the orchid stand, with a water trough on every tier of the stand. A drain switch should be installed at the lower end of the water trough so that the dirty water can be drained off periodically. The depth of the water trough is generally best at 20 cm to 30 cm. Fill it with water and cover it with a steel wire mesh, with the orchid pots sitting on top. This not only increases air humidity but also has a certain cooling effect. Combined with spraying water on the floor, the humidity during the day on sunny days can reach about 40%, which can basically meet the humidity requirements of orchids. If there is continuous cloudy weather and the air humidity in the orchid room is too high, it is necessary to promptly turn on exhaust fans, miniature electric fans, and the like to blow with a gentle breeze and promote air circulation so as to reduce the air humidity. In summer, watering should be flexibly controlled in timing and frequency according to the pots and potting medium used. Generally, watering is best done in the evening and in the morning. For watering, generally do not use the soaking-pot method or the drenching method, and spray water and mist as little as possible, so as not to pour water into the heart of the leaves and cause rot.
