What Should You Do If Clivia Does Not Grow New Leaves?

Clivia (Clivia miniata) is elegant and beautiful, making it very suitable for placing in the living room or study to add indoor charm. Why has a Clivia that has been grown for a long time suddenly stopped growing new leaves? It may be due to these problems.

1. Repair Rotten Roots

The root system is the most critical part for a plant to absorb nutrients and grow and develop. Rotten roots not only prevent new leaves from growing, but in severe cases can also cause the plant to die. Take the Clivia out of the flower pot, loosen the old soil and remove the rotten roots, place it in a disinfectant solution to sterilize, and replant it after air-drying.

2. Replace the Soil

The root system of Clivia is only suitable for slightly acidic soil. After many years of cultivation, soil alkalization may occur, so the potting soil should be replaced to keep the soil acidic. You can also use orange peel, fermented rice washing water, etc. to neutralize it and make the soil acidic again.

3. Apply Fertilizer

If fertilizer is insufficient, then the Clivia root system has no energy to absorb, so it is understandable that new leaves do not grow. Base fertilizer should be sufficient. In addition, a liquid fertilizer should be applied every 20~30 days.

4. Pruning Mistakes

Generally, when pests and diseases occur, the leaf growth point of Clivia will be eaten by insects, so new leaves do not grow. It is also possible that the leaf emergence point was accidentally cut off during ordinary pruning and leaf trimming, causing new leaves not to grow. After sterilizing and killing insects in time, wait patiently; usually the plant will grow a new leaf emergence point on its own.
