When is the fertilization period for orchids?

1. Seedling stage
At this time the orchid is in its spring seedling stage, which is precisely its best period of growth, so fertilizing it in time can promote the orchid's growth. You can mainly apply some compound fertilizer, or some diluted nutrient solution, so that the orchid at the seedling stage can absorb it better and its growth rate can be accelerated.
2. Growing season
Both summer and autumn are peak growing seasons for orchids, so an appropriate amount of nutrients should be applied. In summer, too much fertilizer is not advisable; applying a phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once during the whole summer is enough. By around October, you should begin to increase fertilization, because the orchid not only needs to grow but also needs to store enough nutrients to get through winter.
3. Dormant period
Once an orchid is in its dormant period, you can stop fertilizing, because no matter how much fertilizer is applied at this time, it cannot make the orchid grow quickly; instead, it will have the opposite effect and be harmful to the plant's normal growth. Generally, for an orchid in its dormant period, you can apply a solid fertilizer once, with the aim of strengthening the orchid's cold resistance so it can make it through winter smoothly.
