How to straighten Clivia leaves

When you just bought a Clivia at the flower market, it may still be a plant with fairly even growth, but after you get it home, it won't be long before the leaves start growing crooked. In most cases, this problem is caused by not turning the flower pot's orientation for a long time.

All plants have phototropism, and that includes Clivia, except that Clivia shows it a bit more obviously than other plants. Because of the light, Clivia leaves clearly grow toward the lit side, and over time they become crooked toward the lit side, which affects the plant's ornamental value.

If the Clivia leaves have already grown crooked, then we can use the following methods. Basically, within half a month it will become a normal plant again.

The first method is to use toilet paper and a paper clip. First wrap the toilet paper around the crooked leaf and the adjacent leaf, then use the paper clip to clamp both leaves together. After fixing them this way for half a month, the crooked leaf can be corrected by artificial intervention into a normal leaf.

The second method is to use string to tie the crooked leaf together with a normal leaf, but do not tie it too tightly, otherwise it will damage the leaves. Then you also need to frequently turn the flower pot's orientation. In about half a month, it will basically become a normal plant.

The third method is to use cardboard. Prepare a piece of cardboard wider than the Clivia leaf, then cut holes in the cardboard according to the leaf width and spacing, just big enough for the Clivia leaf to pass through. Then slip the cardboard over the leaves, and after half a month you can take it off.

If it is a Clivia we just bought, be sure to remember to change its orientation once every 2 days or every 1 day. This will let the Clivia leaves receive even light and grow into a more symmetrical and beautiful shape, instead of growing crooked.

No matter which leaf-correcting method is used, it will basically become a normal plant after half a month. After correction, remember to turn the flower pot's orientation once every 2 days, so that the corrected leaves can receive even light. Only in this way can you ensure that the Clivia has a beautiful plant shape.
