How to care for the offsets of clivia after division

How should clivia offsets be cared for after division?

A newly separated offset undergoes great changes in growing conditions after leaving the mother plant, and its own growth capacity is rather weak, so careful care is essential to ensure its survival.

1. When dividing, keep as much of the root system on the offset as possible. The more roots there are, the more favorable it is for the offset's normal growth later on.

2. Promptly coat the wound with clean fine stove ash, charcoal powder, plant ash, etc., so that it dries quickly, preventing water loss and infection by pathogens.

3. For offsets without roots, do not rush to place them in nutrient soil for care. After the wound has dried slightly, first bury them in sterilized fine sand, sawdust or perlite for root induction. At a temperature of 20°C to 25°C, keep the potting soil moist. After about 50 days, new roots will grow, and they can then be planted in nutrient soil for normal care.

4. Watering must be controlled. For an offset that has just left the mother plant and been planted in nutrient soil, the first watering should not be too much, to prevent the wound from becoming infected and rotting.
