What should be paid attention to when propagating white magnolia (Michelia alba) by approach grafting

① It is usually best to carry out propagation from May to July each year.

② Use 2- to 3-year-old Magnolia liliiflora (purple magnolia) as the rootstock, and select a slightly semi-lignified current-year summer shoot of white magnolia (Michelia alba) as the scion.

③ On the rootstock, at 20-30 cm above the ground, cut a curved incision about 5 cm long, deep enough to reach the xylem; make the same cut on the scion at the same height using the same method, then align and press the cambium layers of the two curved cuts tightly together, tie them firmly with hemp twine or plastic strips, and secure with a bamboo stake to prevent movement. After 2-3 months, once the wound has completely healed, separate it from the mother plant and plant it separately.

④ Afterward, carry out normal care and management as usual.
