How to root a rootless Clivia miniata in water; applying medication can speed up rooting

If you have a rootless Clivia miniata at home, do not just throw it away, because it can slowly grow roots when placed in water. The commonly used methods include applying medication, increasing the temperature, soaking in water, and air-drying treatment, all of which can effectively promote the plant to grow roots and continue growing.

1. Applying medication

To root a rootless Clivia miniata in water, a very simple method is to apply some medication. Generally, we can crush vitamin B12 into powder, then put it into water and stir until it dissolves, fully soak the lower part of the plant in it for about 5 minutes, and then take it out; this can effectively help its roots grow and make it root quickly.

2. Increasing the temperature

If you want Clivia miniata to grow roots, you must ensure that during the rooting period its temperature is 3°C~5°C higher than the water temperature. An air conditioner or heater can be used to raise the temperature; if the water temperature is relatively low, first use an electric blanket to raise the water temperature, so that the two are balanced, which can effectively speed up its rooting time.

3. Soaking in water

Soaking in water is a relatively simple and effective rooting method now. First cut off the small bulb of Clivia miniata, disinfect it with a disinfectant solution, and then wash it clean with clear water; during the whole process, be careful not to damage the stem buds, so as not to cause the plant to lose vitality. After that, place it in a container filled with clear water, add a small amount of white sugar, take it out after one day, wash it clean, and then insert it into water for cuttings; basically, it can successfully root in about 15 days.

4. Air-drying treatment

For a rootless Clivia miniata, we can select its divided stems, then place them in a cool and ventilated environment to air-dry for about 6 hours; after the wounds have healed, place them in a flower pot and then slowly add water. It is recommended to use purified water or mineral water; during the rooting period there is no need to change the water, and simply add water after the water has evaporated.
