How to improve the farming profitability of pink-shell laying hens

The pink-shell laying hen is a niche breed among laying hens. Its eggshell color falls between that of brown-shell and white-shell eggs, appearing light brown; strictly speaking, it belongs to the brown-shell category, but people in China generally call it the pink-shell egg. Although raising them is not difficult, a certain level of skill is still required to ensure stable, high egg production during the laying period. So how can the farming profitability of pink-shell laying hens be improved? Let's take a look.

1. Relieve stress

Pink-shell laying hens are rather timid and are highly prone to restlessness and flock panic; they react strongly to changes in their surroundings, which causes large fluctuations in the laying rate. Therefore, a variety of vitamins and amino acids and other nutritional additives with calming and sedative effects need to be specially added to the feed. This can relieve stress responses, sustain the peak laying period as long as possible, and secure greater returns.

2. Repair the reproductive system

As the laying rate of pink-shell laying hens gradually rises, if nutritional supplements in the feed are not provided in time, the reproductive system will inevitably suffer damage to varying degrees, which reduces the secretory function of the oviduct and the shell gland. Therefore, extra supplements of nutrients such as vitamins, yeast selenium and organic zinc are needed to repair the epithelial cells of the reproductive system, improve the secretory function of the shell gland, and enhance muscle recovery after laying. Only in this way can the eggshell color be effectively improved while also preventing death from prolapse of the cloaca in laying hens.

3. Enhance disease resistance

Pink-shell laying hens should inherently have the advantages of native chickens, such as strong disease resistance and a low death and culling rate, but under current farming conditions their death and culling rate is still relatively high. Therefore, compound microecological preparations such as Bacillus, lactic acid bacteria and yeast, as well as health-oriented functional additives such as vine tea flavonoids, need to be added to the feed to regulate the balance of intestinal flora, promote the development of immune organs and the proliferation of immune cells, and improve the overall disease resistance of the laying hens. This can reduce the likelihood of disease or shorten the treatment period after onset, lower farming costs and increase returns.

4. Improve feed utilization

Because some pink-shell laying hens eat little, improving the utilization rate of nutrients in the feed is extremely important when supplementing nutrients. This requires adding non-starch polysaccharide enzymes to the feed to help the laying hens better digest the crude protein, crude fat and carbohydrates in the feed and improve feed utilization. Thus, while reducing feed intake, feed utilization is improved, the excretion burden on the liver and kidneys is eased, and ultimately the laying performance of pink-shell laying hens is enhanced.
