Which fertilizers are suitable as seed fertilizers

It is currently the crop sowing season. When sowing crops, applying a seed fertilizer is extremely beneficial for seed germination and seedling growth, and many regions now apply seed fertilizers. However, the choice of fertilizer type for seed fertilizer also requires careful consideration; not all fertilizers can be used as a seed fertilizer. If the wrong seed fertilizer is chosen, it will not only fail to promote seed germination but may also cause seed rot and seedling death. So which fertilizers are suitable as a seed fertilizer? Let's take a look below.

1. Superphosphate

Generally called ordinary superphosphate, or ordinary calcium for short, it is suitable for various crops and soils and is mainly used as a base fertilizer or seed fertilizer. When used as a seed fertilizer, it can reduce the fixation of phosphorus by the soil and help seedlings absorb phosphorus. When used as a seed fertilizer, it is best to crush and sieve it, then mix it evenly with high-quality organic fertilizer before use. The purpose of doing so is to prevent it from directly contacting the seeds and causing seedling burn. The usual application rate is 5-10 kg. If banded application is done promptly, use 10-20 kg per mu; if broadcast, use 20-30 kg per mu.

2. Ammonium sulfate

Ammonium sulfate, or ammonium sulphate for short, is suitable for various crops and can be used as a topdressing or seed fertilizer, and can also be used as a topdressing. When used as a seed fertilizer applied together with seeding, try to avoid excessive contact between ammonium sulfate and the seeds, and ensure that both the seeds and ammonium sulfate are dry when applying. The usual rate is 2.5 kg per mu; it can be mixed and sown immediately, but it should not be left standing for long.

3. Triple superphosphate

Triple superphosphate, or triple calcium for short. When used as a seed fertilizer, the application rate is about 2.5-5 kg per mu. Because it does not contain calcium sulfate, its fertilizing effect for sulfur-loving crops is not as good as that of superphosphate. In addition, its effect when applied to alkaline soil is also not as good as ordinary calcium. These are all points that need attention.

4. Diammonium phosphate

Diammonium phosphate can be applied as a base fertilizer, or as a seed fertilizer and topdressing, among which the effects as a base fertilizer and seed fertilizer are the best. When used as a seed fertilizer, the amount should preferably not be too much, with 2.5-5 kg per mu being suitable, and care should also be taken to keep it separated from the seeds to avoid burning the seeds and seedlings. Seed soaking can also be used, with a 2% diammonium phosphate solution, that is, dissolving 1 kg of diammonium phosphate in 50 kg of water, soaking 50 kg of corn for 24 hours, and sowing after the seeds are slightly dry.
