When is a good time to change the soil for a clivia?

Generally speaking, a clivia needs its soil changed once a year, so some flower enthusiasts ask: the best seasons for changing a clivia's soil are spring and autumn. In spring, especially after the clivia's flowering period, the plant has used up a large amount of nutrients, so changing the soil in time not only helps replenish nutrients promptly but also makes the necessary preparations for the upcoming hot summer.

After a clivia has gone through the long summer, the potting soil's nutrients are largely depleted and its permeability has decreased. If the soil is not changed in time to replenish nutrients, it will affect the clivia's bolting and flowering in winter. Therefore, after entering autumn, in Northeast China this is generally in mid-to-late September, and in North China generally from late September to early October, the soil and pot can be changed (other regions can adjust according to local temperature conditions).

Winter is the peak flowering period for clivias, and it also coincides with New Year's Day and the Spring Festival, when market buying and selling is brisk. If a temperature above 10°C can be maintained, potting up a newly purchased clivia will not have too great an impact on the plant's normal growth, so there is no need to change the soil right after buying it and bringing it home.

Summer temperatures are relatively high and bacteria multiply quickly, and clivias are mostly in a dormant period. If the soil and pot are changed in this season, it easily causes root damage and rot. Therefore, do not change the soil or pot carelessly.
