What causes yellow leaves on cyclamen

Cyclamen is one of the finest indoor ornamental plants, and many friends encounter yellowing leaves while growing it; if not dealt with in time, it can easily cause the plant to wither. So what causes yellow leaves on cyclamen? Let's take a look together.

1. Yellow leaves from lack of water

Cyclamen is a relatively drought-tolerant plant. Generally, watering once a week in winter is enough; in summer, when temperatures are higher, the plant's moisture evaporates quickly, so the watering interval needs to be shortened, based specifically on the natural humidity. How do we tell whether the potting soil lacks water? Actually, it is quite easy to tell: just test it with your hand. The soil in the pot is generally fairly loose; press the soil gently with your hand and feel whether there is moisture. If there is, there is no need to water for the time being; if it feels rather dry, then it needs appropriate watering, but be careful not to let water accumulate, otherwise it will affect the roots' breathing, and in severe cases the accumulated water will rot the roots.

2. Yellow leaves from overwatering

Cyclamen is fairly tolerant, and when caring for it, it is better to let it be a little dry than to let water accumulate. In general care, watering about once every five days is enough, and afterwards it is fine to wait until the soil is dry before watering again. Sometimes when temperatures are high, you can increase air humidity by spraying a fine mist, which can also meet the leaves' water needs.

3. Light

Plants cannot do without sunlight from the very beginning, especially during their flowering period. Cyclamen blooms in winter, and its flowering period lasts as long as 3 months. If there is not enough light during the flowering period, the leaves will turn yellow and the flowers will wither. So when growing it, be sure to place it in a sunny spot, especially during the flowering period. In addition, the summer sun is intense, so it should be shaded appropriately, because the cyclamen's stems are fairly tender and can easily be scorched in strong light.

4. Lack of fertilizer

Potted cyclamen has relatively little soil, so the nutrients in the soil are relatively few as well. Especially after growing it for a long period, the fertility in the soil has been used up, and at this point a lack of nutrients will cause yellow leaves. Then it is time to change the soil and fertilize promptly. For cyclamen that has finished blooming, after the flowers fade you can dissolve a small amount of flower fertilizer in water and pour it into the soil to supplement the nutrients the plant needs.
