How to root a Clivia? A few practical methods to teach you

How to make a Clivia grow roots

For hydroponically grown Clivia, you can use the water-soaking method to soak the plant's pseudobulb in water, or soak it in potassium permanganate and then add rooting solution before hydroponic culture, or place the seedling stem in a cool, ventilated place to dry for 5-6 hours until the cut surface dries before hydroponic culture; all of these can promote rooting. For soil-cultured Clivia, you can mix an appropriate amount of rooting powder into the soil.

I. Hydroponic culture

1. Water-soaking method / chemical-soaking method

Place the small seedling to be planted in a cool, ventilated place to dry, remove its pseudobulb, soak it in water for two to three days, then take it out for later use. Prepare about 3 percent sugar water, put the small seedling in to soak for 24 hours, with about one cm of it submerged, then take it out and it is ready for cuttings.

You can also replace the sugar water with a vitamin B12 solution; dilute and stir it with water, then put the seedling stem in to soak for 54 minutes, which can speed up rooting.

2. Warming method

As the name suggests, this means raising the temperature. Generally, hydroponic plants root easily when the temperature is above 35 degrees, which is also why people use hotbed cultivation. You can raise the water temperature by 3-5 degrees; soaking at this temperature promotes rooting.

II. Soil culture

1. River sand to stimulate roots

Wash and disinfect the river sand, insert the seedling stem into slightly moist river sand, and generally in about one month white roots will grow. Be careful to keep the river sand moist and the air circulating during the process to avoid root rot. The river sand must be disinfected, otherwise it will also produce pathogens and affect the plant's health.

2. Rooting powder

The specialized agent for stimulating roots is rooting powder. When growing in soil, choose loose, breathable humus soil, mix in an appropriate amount of rooting powder, generally an amount the size of a thumbnail is enough, spray water with a spray bottle to keep the loam moist, and plant the small seedling in it.
