Do Orchids Like Acidic Soil? A Guide to the Ideal Soil pH

1. Do They Like Acidic Soil?
Orchids very much like acidic soil, and the soil pH should ideally be between 5.5 and 6.5. They grow better in slightly acidic soil. Do not use soil that leans alkaline to grow orchids; this kind of soil is not suitable for their growth and may cause the plant to stop growing. Soil that is well aerated and rich in nutrients is best, because good aeration helps the plant's roots breathe, and the nutrients it contains can support its growth.
Secondly, the soil's drainage capacity should also be fairly strong; otherwise it will affect the normal discharge of water, and the roots will rot when soaked in water. Finally, it must be clean, with no bacteria or insect eggs inside, so it should be disinfected before use.
2. Soil Mixing Methods
When mixing soil, you can combine garden soil and rotted tree bark, or mix leaf mold, river sand and an appropriate amount of perlite. You can also put some coarse sand at the very bottom of the flower pot, which will increase the soil's drainage and improve aeration as well, allowing the orchid to grow better and more robustly.
