Causes of Yellowing Leaves in Redbud and How to Control Them

The redbud is an ornamental flowering plant with extremely high ornamental value, and growing it indoors beautifies the environment wonderfully. But during cultivation, many problems tend to arise, and yellowing leaves are one of them. Many friends do not know how to deal with yellowing redbud leaves, so let's take a look together below.

1. Overwatering

The redbud likes warmth and moisture, but it hates waterlogging. During care, once it is watered too much, the soil stays wet for a long time, cannot breathe, and lacks oxygen; the roots are deprived of oxygen, which causes the leaves to turn yellow. In addition, overwatering also makes the redbud's newly grown leaves turn pale yellow, while the old leaves gradually yellow and drop off.

Control method: Stop watering immediately, take the plant out of its pot and move it to an environment with scattered light and good ventilation to dry, then use newspaper or peat soil in the pot to absorb the excess water, or simply repot and replant it.

2. Improper Fertilizing

The redbud likes fertilizer, but when fertilizing, never apply it too concentrated or too frequently. Be sure to follow the principle of frequent applications of dilute fertilizer; generally, a low-concentration cake fertilizer applied once every half month is enough. Once fertilizer is applied too concentrated or too frequently, the redbud is very prone to yellowing leaves.

Control method: Stop fertilizing immediately, and at the same time water with clear water to dilute the fertilizer; it usually improves after about a week. In addition, you can also turn over the soil in the pot a second time and replace it with materials such as new soil. Even during the redbud's peak growing season, fertilizing once every 10 days is enough.

3. Insufficient Light

The redbud is a flowering plant that likes a warm environment. When grown indoors, it must be placed in a spot with sufficient light for care. If it is kept indoors or in a shady area for a long time, its leaves cannot carry out photosynthesis, and over time the leaves will turn yellow and drop off.

Control method: When growing it indoors, it is best to place it in a well-ventilated spot with sufficient light. For yellowing leaves caused by insufficient light, move it immediately to a sunny spot for care, so its branches and leaves stop yellowing and its leaves regain their green vitality. Note that in summer, the redbud is no longer suitable for being placed in strong light for care, otherwise the leaves will wither.
