How to grow Aglaia odorata and get it through winter, and can this flower be placed in the bedroom

Aglaia odorata blooms many times a year and is a very popular plant in the south. However, growing it takes a certain amount of effort to care for, and it likes warmth and fears the cold, so it needs better protection in winter.

I. Growing methods and points to note

1. Temperature

Temperature is very important for Aglaia odorata, because it is not very cold-hardy; basically, below 0°C it may very likely die outright. At around 16°C, growth becomes very slow, so the most suitable temperature is around 25°C, which is why protective measures must be taken once the weather turns cool.

2. Soil

Aglaia odorata needs fertile and loose soil, with somewhat high drainage and aeration, paired with a pot that drains strongly; sandy soil containing humus is best, and slightly acidic soil is preferable.

3. Fertilizing

Aglaia odorata does not need overly concentrated fertilizer solution; generally a dilute, well-rotted cake fertilizer solution is enough. After seedlings grow new leaves, fertilizing once every two weeks is sufficient. During the peak growing season, the amount can be appropriately increased, while in winter there is basically no need to fertilize much.

4. Watering

Aglaia odorata relatively likes a moist environment, and moderate watering during the growing period is enough. Too much or too little may lead to yellow or withered leaves; if such a phenomenon occurs, adjust the watering frequency according to the symptoms. Also, in summer it should be watered frequently, and the humidity of the surrounding environment should be maintained while avoiding direct sunlight.

II. Winter care

Aglaia odorata comes from the tropics, and winter is very hard on it, so it needs careful care to get through the winter. Generally, after Frost's Descent it should be moved indoors, keeping the temperature at 8-10°C. If the soil in the pot dries out, water it a little, but be careful not to fertilize.

After the room temperature drops below 5°C, it is best to place it in a wind-sheltered spot and cover the pot with a plastic bag to prevent frost damage. Two holes should be cut at the top of the plastic bag for ventilation; once it warms up, it can be moved to a sunny place to get more sun, but be careful to block cold wind.

III. Can it be placed in the bedroom?

Many people are puzzled about whether Aglaia odorata can be placed in the bedroom, but there is no need to worry: Aglaia odorata is not toxic, and many of its benefits are good for the human body, so placing it indoors is a good choice. It can also absorb harmful gases from the air, and after blooming its fragrance is very fragrant, making it an ideal indoor plant.

So for humans, placing Aglaia odorata in the bedroom has many benefits. However, for the Aglaia odorata itself, it is not so good, because the indoor environment is darker and not ventilated; it is best not to keep it in the bedroom for a long time, otherwise its growth will be seriously affected.
