What causes twisted leaves in orchids

There are two reasons why orchid leaves become twisted. One is a normal phenomenon: in varieties such as Cuigai and Lüyun, twisted leaves are a distinct characteristic. The other is a pathological cause: long-term lack of water or attack by pests and diseases can both make the leaves twist. Be careful to water it less, and also ventilate it often.
I. Causes
1. Normal situation: some orchids develop twisted leaves during growth. In varieties such as Cuigai and Lüyun, their leaves becoming twisted is in fact the most obvious characteristic, and no treatment is needed at all.
2. Pathological situation: some orchid leaves become twisted possibly because of lack of water; a plant that has been dehydrated for a long time will become twisted, and it should be given some water as soon as possible. It may also be caused by attack by diseases or insects, which will likewise make it twisted. Check whether its leaves have insects; if so, brush them off with a soft brush or use insecticide for control.
II. How to avoid it
1. Water control: this plant, the orchid, must not be soaked in water, so be sure to water it in small amounts; just let the soil have a slight moisture. Usually, watering until the soil is thoroughly soaked is enough to stop; do not let unnecessary standing water form in the pot.
2. Ventilation: the environment where orchids are cared for should be ventilated often, so as to avoid attack by pests and diseases. Once disease is found, it must be controlled at the first moment; severe pests and diseases will make the leaves twist.
