How to grow Cymbidium orchids, and the cultivation methods for Cymbidium orchids

Cymbidium orchids are fairly common flowering plants in everyday life. They not only have high ornamental value but also have a certain purifying effect; grown at home, they can effectively purify indoor air. However, many people do not know how to grow Cymbidium orchids. In fact, growing them well is very simple: just water and fertilize appropriately. Now let's take a look at the cultivation methods for Cymbidium orchids.

I. How to grow Cymbidium orchids

Cymbidium orchids originate from India, so they are plants of tropical regions and like to grow in warm environments, which makes them fairly suitable for growing in the living room. During cultivation, you must also make sure the indoor temperature does not get too low, otherwise it will affect the plant's normal growth. Especially in winter, if you do not do a good job of keeping them warm, the plant may very likely suffer cold damage.

And the most crucial thing in cultivation is to supply the plant with a certain amount of water, so that it can grow faster; otherwise the plant will wither and die from lack of nutrients. So flower lovers must pay attention to this point during cultivation. Next, the plant also needs to receive sufficient sunlight.

II. Cultivation methods for Cymbidium orchids

1. Water appropriately

The growth of Cymbidium is divided into vegetative growth and reproductive growth. Generally, watering once after the medium has dried out thoroughly is suitable. When the plant is relatively tall and robust, watering should be stopped temporarily to inhibit its vegetative growth; there is no need to feel sorry for it, as Cymbidium has very strong vitality. It is often seen that some plants are very robust but do not bloom, and this has a great deal to do with improper watering.

2. Fertilize frequently

Cymbidium orchids need a relatively large amount of fertilizer. If nutrients are insufficient, they will not bloom easily. Generally, during the peak growing season, fertilizer should be applied once every ten days, and a thin organic fertilizer is best. In the spring and summer peak growing seasons, a compound fertilizer with a relatively balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ratio is suitable. Starting in autumn, apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, or you can directly spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate on the leaves to promote flower bud differentiation and help flowering.

3. Reasonable light

Cymbidium orchids need sufficient scattered light for growth. In summer and autumn, use a shade net to provide about 50% shading; on cloudy days or in winter and spring when the sunlight is soft, open the shade net to let them receive direct light. But during the flowering period, the orchid plants should be placed in a location with weaker light so that their flowers are bright and beautiful.

4. Temperature requirements

They like warm winters and cool summers, and the suitable growing temperature is 10°C to 25°C. The nighttime temperature is best around 10°C. Especially during the flowering period, keeping the temperature above 5°C and below 15°C can extend the flowering period by more than 3 months.
