Precautions for Raising Mandarin Ducks

When raising Mandarin ducks, there are many issues to pay attention to. Unlike ordinary ducks, they are not as simple to raise, and there are considerable differences in some aspects. So what issues should be noted when raising them? Let's take a look below, so you can further improve your breeding techniques.

1. Site Selection

Mandarin ducks have a relatively high demand for water, so when choosing a site, priority should be given to the location of water. Good water conditions mean greater breeding advantages. Places with abundant water sources and strong flow are best, and aquatic resources and aquatic plants should be relatively rich, so there are high-quality innate conditions. Secondly, there should be land beside the water source that can receive direct sunlight for a relatively long time, and shade-casting objects should be avoided around it. Mandarin ducks especially like to bask in the sun and play in the water. Since after a long period of raising, the activity area of Mandarin ducks easily develops odors, the wind direction should preferably pass through the breeding site. These are some of the things to consider when choosing a site.

2. Breeding Ratio

The breeding ratio refers to the ratio of male ducks to female ducks. This is a problem that breeders easily overlook. Although they are Mandarin ducks, the male-to-female ratio is not one to one. It is generally around one to three, which is beneficial for reproduction and increases egg production income. During this period, do not easily add male ducks. It is best if they are all raised together from a young age. If supplementation is needed, it should also be done in small amounts. Adding too many at once can easily cause unrest in the duck flock, so more attention should be paid to this.

3. Disease Prevention

Although Mandarin ducks themselves have a relatively strong ability to resist diseases, this does not mean they will not get sick. Many people will naturally ignore this issue. In fact, their diseases are the same as those of ordinary meat ducks, but the causes that trigger the diseases are different. In most cases, Mandarin ducks develop diseases because of poor hygiene, and only in very few cases are they triggered by other reasons. Therefore, the way to prevent diseases in Mandarin ducks is very simple: just do a good job of routine disinfection of the duck house.

4. Timely Grouping

Although Mandarin ducks can be raised on a large scale, the number in each group should not be too many. Ordinary ducks may be raised in thousands together without much problem, but for Mandarin ducks, a group should only be around one to two hundred, and not too many. The duck house also needs to be divided into areas by group, which will noticeably increase breeding efficiency. The area of the duck house depends on the number: in winter, it can be denser at 4-6 ducks per sq m; in summer, it should be sparser at 3-4 ducks per sq m. If conditions are insufficient, it is acceptable to increase the density appropriately, but grouping must be done in a timely manner.

The above are some precautions for raising Mandarin ducks. Everyone should pay more attention when raising them. Different duck breeds have different needs, so you must adjust your raising methods according to the actual breed.
