When do orchids bloom, and how to grow them so they flower?

I. When do they bloom

Generally speaking, different varieties bloom at different times.

1. Cymbidium sinense: the flowering period is usually from October to March of the following year.

2. Cymbidium goeringii: its flowering period is usually from January to March.

3. Cymbidium faberi: its flowering period is usually from March to May.

4. Cymbidium ensifolium: it has strong vitality and fears neither cold nor heat. It can be seen blooming from May to December.

II. How to grow them so they bloom

1. Temperature: it prefers a warm environment. Generally speaking, the temperatures of spring and autumn suit its growth; in summer, take care that it is not damaged by ultraviolet rays, and it should be shaded appropriately. In winter, it should be placed in an environment close to room temperature. It is suitable for growing indoors; make sure the air is humid and circulating.

2. Light: it needs sufficient light, but fears direct strong light. It should be placed in a semi-shaded spot. Make sure it gets enough light hours. After autumn begins, it can receive light all day long.

3. Water: its water requirements are not especially high. As long as the humidity is at 8 parts, that is enough. Be sure not to let it be too wet, otherwise the plant may take in too much water and drown. Consecutive rainy days are not very suitable, and it needs to be moved to a place where it will not be rained on often. In winter, it can go without watering or be watered little. In summer, it can be sprayed 2-3 times.

4. Soil: it is generally best suited to acidic soil containing rotting leaves. A pH between 5 and 6.5 is more suitable. Above 6.5 is not suitable for its growth.

5. Fertilizer: just give it an appropriate amount of fertilizer. It likes fertilizer, yet cannot be given too much. Usually give it diluted liquid fertilizer. Rice-washing water from home can also be applied to it. This can promote better growth.
