Can Clivia do without sunlight?

Although it is a shade-loving plant, it cannot go without sunlight either. If it is kept out of light for a long time, it tends to grow leggy, is unlikely to bloom, and its leaves easily turn yellow and become susceptible to disease, which is extremely detrimental to its growth. When caring for it, place it in a spot with scattered light, or move it outdoors for about two hours of light, but be careful to avoid strong light. In addition, pay attention to watering, fertilizing and temperature; only with the right methods will the plant grow better.

1. Whether it is possible

It is a shade-loving plant, but that does not mean it can go completely without light during its growth period. If it is kept out of light for a long time, it easily grows leggy, which prevents it from blooming, and its leaves easily turn yellow and become infected with pests and diseases, which is extremely detrimental to its growth. Therefore it cannot go without sunlight. During care, it is best to place it indoors in a spot with scattered light, or move it indoors every day to receive two hours of light, being careful to avoid strong light, so that it can grow more robustly.

2. Care methods

1. Watering: Its root system is fleshy, so when caring for it, there is no need to water too frequently; just keep it slightly moist. It must not be too dry or too wet, and especially must not have standing water, otherwise the roots easily rot.

2. Fertilizing: When caring for it, simply apply an appropriate amount of fertilizer in spring and autumn. Note that the fertilizer concentration should be low to avoid burning the roots. Stop fertilizing during high temperatures in summer and low temperatures in winter; no application is needed.

3. Temperature: It likes a cool environment, and when caring for it, a temperature between 15°C and 25°C is most suitable. In winter it should not drop below 10°C, otherwise the plant is easily frostbitten. In summer, pay attention to ventilation and cooling; high temperatures also affect growth.
