Can rice water be used to water clivia?

Because rice water contains large amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium as well as various trace elements, it can provide nutrients for clivia, and because rice water is acidic, it can acidify the soil and make the soil more suitable for clivia to grow, so we can use rice water to water clivia.

1. Can it be used for watering

Clivia can absolutely be watered with rice water, and watering it this way has very good results.

2. Reasons

(1) Rice water contains bran and a small amount of broken rice grains, and holds quite a lot of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, among which potassium is the most abundant. As essential elements for clivia's growth, these three elements can all help clivia grow better. In addition, rice water also contains trace elements such as calcium, magnesium and zinc, which are also very beneficial to clivia's growth.

(2) The pH of rice water is between 5.5-6, making it weakly acidic. Using it to water clivia can neutralize some of the alkaline substances in the soil and make the soil weakly acidic as well. Clivia very much likes weakly acidic soil, and can grow better in it.

3. Points to note

(1) Fermentation. Rice water, like raw fertilizer, must be decomposed and fermented before it can be used to grow clivia. Because rice water is rich in nutrients, clivia cannot absorb it completely in one watering, and some will remain in the soil, where it is broken down and used by microorganisms, and this process releases a large amount of heat. This generated heat energy is very likely to damage clivia's roots. The fermentation method is very simple: just put the rice water in a sealed container for about 15 days.

(2) Dilution. Rice water itself has a very high content of nutrients, and using it to water clivia without diluting it is very likely to have a bad effect on it. So before use, it should be diluted with two to three times its volume of clean water.
