When does a Clivia need watering

Under what circumstances should a Clivia be watered

There is a saying about watering flowers: "water when dry, water thoroughly when wet." Many beginner flower growers do not understand this very clearly. What "water when dry, water thoroughly when wet" means is that you should wait until the potting soil is dry before watering again, and water thoroughly each time. Below, let us look at how to judge whether a Clivia needs watering.

Clivia

The roots of the Clivia are fleshy roots that can store a lot of water, so it is generally quite drought-tolerant. However, the Clivia does need a somewhat moist environment, so watering a Clivia also has its finer points:

1. Tap: lightly tap the flower pot at the 1/2 to 1/3 point. A crisp sound means the soil moisture is already insufficient and it needs watering. A dull sound means there is plenty of moisture and no watering is needed.

2. Weigh: before watering, lift the flower pot to feel its weight. Water it. After watering, lift the flower pot again to feel its weight. Over time, with some experience, you will know just by lifting the pot whether it is time to water.

3. Probe: this is the most direct method. Insert a finger about 1/3 of the way into the soil to feel the moisture. If it is moist, no watering is needed. If it is damp, get ready to water. If there is only a slight trace of moisture, it is time to water. The above three methods are not only suitable for judging the watering interval for Clivia; many southern flowers are also suited to them.
