Reasons crab claw orchid buds drop: overwatering and insufficient light

There are many reasons crab claw orchid buds drop, and the roughly common ones include overwatering, lack of light, insufficient fertilizer, and cold waves. So during the bud stage, avoid watering heavily, promptly supplement light for the plant, appropriately increase the application of some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and at the same time prevent excessive temperature differences.

1. Overwatering

When we grow crab claw orchid, we must remember during the bud stage not to water heavily. If there is too much moisture during the bud stage, it will cause bud drop, and in severe cases it will also cause waterlogging and root rot. In addition, when watering, do not water thoroughly; appropriately moistening the potting soil is enough, and wait until the buds open to gradually increase the amount of watering.

2. Lack of light

Generally speaking, except in the hot summer, crab claw orchid needs to be given sufficient light to enhance the plant's photosynthesis and accumulate nutrients. Insufficient light during the bud stage will lead to poor development of the buds, causing them to drop on their own. If there are prolonged cloudy days, promptly use fluorescent lamps to supplement light.

3. Insufficient fertilizer

When the plant has buds, it is best to increase the application of some fertilizer to promote more robust growth, especially when there are many buds, the amount of fertilizer applied must be controlled even more. Because once there is a fertilizer shortage at this time, the buds will gradually drop due to insufficient nutrients, which also has a great impact on later flowering. For fertilizer, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can be used, and at the same time appropriately spray a potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution to ensure normal development of the buds.

4. Cold wave invasion

Crab claw orchid likes a warm and suitable environment. During the growth period, the temperature must be kept between 15°C and 20°C. During its bud-setting stage, if the temperature drops or the temperature difference is too large, it will cause the buds to drop. To avoid this situation, it is best to place it in a place with sufficient sunlight, and the temperature difference between morning and evening must not be too large.
