Why do chickens snore and cough? Causes and solutions
Winter has arrived, and temperatures have dropped sharply in many places. For those who raise livestock, problems can arise with the slightest carelessness. For example, in chicken farming, many farmers encounter snoring or coughing during this period. So what causes these phenomena? Let's take a look together.

1. Excessive temperature difference
Coughing and snoring in chickens are first of all directly related to falling temperatures and excessive temperature differences. Generally speaking, a day-night temperature difference of more than 5 degrees in the chicken coop will cause chickens to cough and snore. As long as the temperature difference in the chicken coop is kept below 3 degrees, these respiratory diseases will disappear on their own after three days, without any drug treatment. If the symptoms have not disappeared after three days, then appropriately administer some Shuanghuang oral liquid to dispel wind-cold, clear heat and detoxify, and improve the chickens' immunity.
2. Mycoplasma or bacterial infection
Another cause is that the flock has contracted a mycoplasma or bacterial infection, causing symptoms such as watery eyes, shaking the head to clear the nostrils, coughing, and snoring. Once such symptoms appear, timely treatment is needed, and you should never hope that it will recover on its own. This disease develops very slowly. A simple mycoplasma and bacterial infection takes about half a month to spread through the whole flock, so early detection and early treatment not only cost less but also produce relatively good results.
3. Viral diseases
The third cause is that the flock has contracted a viral disease, such as influenza, Newcastle disease, and so on. In the early stage of onset, symptoms such as watery eyes, shaking the head to clear the nostrils, coughing, and snoring also appear. If it is caused by a disease in this category, great attention must be paid, as they spread extremely quickly, causing the flock's immunity to drop rapidly and the mortality rate to rise fast. You can choose the antiviral drug Hudukang, combined with the air sac inflammation drug Huchang, and at the same time administer the E. coli drug Ganlike in drinking water, because when a viral disease occurs, not many die from the primary disease; it is often secondary E. coli that causes a significant increase in mortality.
