Euonymus Cutting Techniques

Euonymus is a fairly common landscaping plant in our daily lives, and its winged branches are what we commonly call a traditional Chinese medicine known as Guijianyu. When growing Euonymus, its propagation is very important. Because growing Euonymus from seed takes too long, cutting propagation is now the main method. So how should Euonymus be propagated by cuttings? Below, the editor brings you the cutting techniques for Euonymus. Let's take a look!

1. Cutting seedbed

When propagating Euonymus by cuttings, we first need to prepare the cutting seedbed. The width of the cutting seedbed should be kept at about 1 m, and the length should be controlled at about 8 m. The seedbed should have soil with normal drainage and irrigation and a loose texture, then the soil should be broken up finely, and the bed back and trenches should be made. To ensure the normal growth of the cuttings, we also need to thoroughly disinfect the seedbed. The disinfectant can be phoxim or potassium permanganate solution sprayed on the bed surface. Then seal the bed surface for about 4 days, and after sealing, spray it once more with clean water.

2. Substrate and cuttings

The roots of Euonymus are relatively fine, so the cutting substrate must ensure good permeability, allow normal drainage and irrigation, and of course also be rich in organic matter. The substrate can be prepared with garden soil, pine needles and organic fertilizer, which can effectively improve the survival rate of Euonymus cuttings. After preparing the substrate, the next step is to select the cuttings. The cuttings should mainly be current-year lignified branches from vigorous mother branches with strong growth ability. Be sure to pay attention to the quality of the cuttings, because the quality of the cuttings directly affects the yield and quality of the seedlings and is also closely related to planting benefits.

3. Cutting method

Euonymus cuttings should generally be taken in mid-September each year. However, at the latest, note that it must not be later than November, otherwise the survival rate of the cuttings will be reduced. The length of the cuttings should be kept at about 10-18 cm, and the lower leaves should be removed, keeping the lower leaves. If the leaf area is large, then half of the leaf should be cut off, and buds should be retained appropriately according to the actual condition of the cuttings. If 5 buds are retained, then the bottom of the cutting should mainly be horseshoe-shaped, and the top should remain flat, without tearing, maintaining a smooth cut.

Then the lower cut should be kept neat, following the principle of cutting immediately after collection, and the storage time should preferably not exceed overnight. To avoid rubbing the bark off the seedlings during cutting, before inserting the cuttings, first use a small stick to make small holes and then insert them. The plant and row spacing should be controlled at about 1*4 cm. After cutting, water promptly, build an arched shed, and seal it with plastic film. This can effectively increase ground temperature and humidity. Then, as time goes on, ventilate for about 20 minutes every 4 days or so, and the ventilation time is best at 2-3 pm.

The above is a brief introduction to Euonymus cutting techniques. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only, and I hope it can help everyone!
