How to make a Clivia produce side shoots

If you want a Clivia to produce side shoots in a short time, you can pick willow leaves, soak them in water, and pour it around the Clivia's roots to promote root growth, adjust the temperature to between 19°C and 22°C, and provide around 8 hours of light; in winter, the longer the light exposure the better. For the growing medium, you can mix leaf mold, stove ash and fine sand, which can promote the growth of side shoots.

Methods for making a Clivia produce side shoots 1. Watering with willow leaf water

Willow leaves contain a large amount of salicylic acid, which has a strong inhibitory effect on bacteria and can also promote root growth. We can use this principle: pick vigorously growing willow branches, crush them into small pieces, then place them in clean water to soak, and finally pour the liquid around the Clivia's roots, which can encourage the plant to produce side shoots.

2. Adjust the temperature

Temperature conditions are also crucial. It is best to adjust the temperature to between 19°C and 22°C, which can promote the growth of the Clivia's side shoots. When growing it in winter, the temperature also needs to be strictly controlled, keeping it above 10°C, which is beneficial for the Clivia to produce side shoots.

3. Control the light

Light duration also determines whether a Clivia can fill out with growth. Daily light exposure needs to be around 8 hours. In summer, shading treatment is needed, and in daily care it is best to place it in a semi-shaded environment. When growing it in winter, light exposure must not be less than 6 hours; the longer the time, the more it helps the Clivia's side shoots to sprout.

4. Soil selection

Clivias like to grow in soil with high looseness and prefer a neutral or acidic growing environment, so when mixing soil you can choose 6 parts humus soil, 1 part stove ash and 2 parts fine sand. The soil mixed this way has strong air permeability and is rich in various nutrients, which can promote the growth of side shoots.
