The Timing and Methods for Propagating Golden Bullet from Cuttings

Golden Bullet, also known as Bottle Orchid, has beautiful flowers and fruit and is ideal for planting in courtyards for ornament. Because its fruit stays on the plant for a long time and is shaped like a pellet, it is named "Golden Bullet". Today, besides seed propagation, Golden Bullet can also be propagated from cuttings, which not only ensures the offspring's traits remain unchanged but also makes it possible to identify male and female plants clearly, which helps in cultivating fruit-bearing bonsai. So how should Golden Bullet be propagated from cuttings? Let's take a look together.

1. Pruning the Branch

Golden Bullet is best propagated from cuttings in spring, from March to April, when the plant is in its sprouting stage and the temperature is suitable, which can increase the survival rate of the cuttings. First, from a position close to the base of the plant, prune a healthy, vigorous green shoot about 15 cm long, and cut its lower end into a slanted surface, so that after planting it can increase the water-absorbing area, which helps rooting. After pruning, place it in a shady spot to let the wound dry; once the wound has healed, it can be planted.

2. Preparing the Pot and Soil

For Golden Bullet cuttings, it is best to choose nutrient-rich potting soil for planting, such as humus soil and leaf mold, or you can buy soil for growing Golden Bullet from a flower market and plant directly. In any case, be sure the soil is loose, breathable and well-draining. You can also mix sand, garden soil, peat soil and organic fertilizer in a 5:2:2:1 ratio, then, after exposure to sunlight or disinfection with chemicals, put it into a pot and prepare for planting.

3. Planting the Cutting

First, insert the prepared branch directly into the prepared pot soil, to a depth of about 4 cm. If you have rooting hormone, you can soak it for half an hour first, which will encourage it to root as soon as possible. After planting, keep it in a shady environment for care.

4. Care After Planting

After each planting, do not water immediately, otherwise the wound on the branch is very prone to rotting and death, and it is not good for the plant's growth. After planting, keep the temperature at 20 degrees, wait one week before watering, and patiently wait for the branch to root.
