Reasons for Christmas cactus buds falling off

Insufficient light and improper watering can cause Christmas cactus buds to fall off, and shade should also be provided in hot weather; both overwatering and underwatering can cause buds to drop, so keep the soil slightly moist and avoid waterlogging. Fertilize promptly during the flowering period as well, and do not move the Christmas cactus around arbitrarily, so that sudden temperature changes do not cause the buds to fall off.

1. Too little light

During the bud stage, the Christmas cactus must be given sufficient light. Insufficient light not only affects the plant's health and causes poor development, but also makes the plant's buds drop. In hot summers, avoid direct sun exposure and provide shade. Arbitrarily moving the Christmas cactus's position can also cause buds to fall off to a certain extent. So try to place it in a spot with plenty of light and good ventilation.

2. Improper watering

The Christmas cactus's water intake is generally determined by the season and temperature. Overwatering before the flowering period will affect the growth of the buds, and during the flowering period both overwatering and underwatering will cause the buds to fall off. During care, simply keep the soil slightly moist and avoid waterlogging.

3. Insufficient fertilization The Christmas cactus must be fertilized promptly during the growing period; untimely fertilization will likewise cause buds to fall off, especially before the flowering period and during blooming, when sufficient nutrients must be ensured. When the buds appear, fertilize basically once every 7 days, using liquid fertilizer or a Christmas cactus-specific fertilizer sold on the market.

4. Temperature drop

A drop in temperature is also a reason for Christmas cactus buds falling off. Its suitable growing temperature is between 15-22°C, so sudden cold weather or suddenly being moved to a spot with too low a temperature will also affect the plant's growth and cause the buds to fall off.
