How to water a clivia

1. Understand the characteristics of the clivia to care for it well

The clivia originated in the tropical regions of Africa, where it lived under trees for a long time, so it likes partial shade and a humid climate. Therefore it fears heat, cold, and direct sunlight. It likes fertile, loose, airy, well-draining, slightly acidic soil rich in humus, and a suitable growing temperature of 15-30 degrees. At the same time, the clivia has fleshy roots and is prone to root rot from waterlogging.

2. Watering

Judging from the growth characteristics of the clivia, during its growth and development, controlling water means controlling flowering, controlling growth, and ensuring a vigorous plant.

1. Control water by season:

In summer, with high temperatures, pay attention to shading, with a shading rate of 50%, and also spray water on the leaves to cool them down. Also water once in the morning and once in the evening, just keeping the humidity, but do not let water accumulate, otherwise root rot easily occurs. Insufficient watering easily causes scorched edges and leaves, making the plant wilt and even die.

In winter, because the temperature is low, plant growth is slow and water demand decreases, so reduce watering; generally watering once every 3-5 days is enough. Pay attention to spraying when dry to maintain air humidity. Do not use too much water, as root rot easily occurs. In winter, moist means that when you squeeze it with your hand, it forms a clump with force, and when you release it, the soil crumbles; this is moist.

2. Water use principles: preferably natural water, rainwater, snow water, river water. Even tap water must be placed on a balcony in the sun for 3-4 days before use.

3. Water with 1% liquid ferrous sulfate to keep the soil slightly acidic. Rice washing water can also be used to water the flowers.
